PUBLIC SAFETY

In 2008, the Sheriff-Coroner’s department took 3,776 criminal and incident reports, 412 Coroner’s cases, handled over 32,000 calls for service, and made 2,363 arrests. The Probation Department reduces the impact of crime in our community through investigation, prevention, supervision, collaboration, and detention. The District Attorney’s Victim/Witness Assistance program provides services ranging from client relocation to criminal justice system orientation. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides approximately $2.755 billion in grants to law enforcement agencies nationwide. To date, the County of Mendocino has received $2,234,075.00 in ARRA funds largely in the form of upgrades to technology. The county is aggressively pursuing another $1,320,834.00 in Department of Justice funds to keep Mendocino County Sheriff’s officers out on patrol.
