Burn safety

Managed burning is a valuable tool in reducing wildfire danger and protecting property, but like any tool it can be dangerous if not used properly.  Nearly 20% or fires in Mendocino County are caused by escaped debris fires1. Mendocino County Air Quality Management District burn permits require that -

  • That a minimum 10 foot clearance be maintained from all flammable material.

  • That adequate water be on hand to extinguish the fire.

  • That ALL fires be attended by a responsible adult.

These rules are in place to protect you and your neighbor's property from escaped fires.

Contact your local fire agency with questions about fire safety.

You do not want this to be your backyard  - be fire safe -all year long.
