Request to Burn Help

Instructions on how to use the online burn request form.

You can submit a burn request online to the Mendocino County Air Quality Management District if you have an active Smoke Management Plan (SMP) or a Property Development Plan (PDP) with the district.


Access the online link with a mobile or desktop device and fill out the information requested.

Steps

  1. Fill in your first name and last name.
  2. Fill in your phone number using this exact format 000-000-0000. Preferably enter with your mobile phone number.
  3. Fill in your email address twice. It is very important to know that the email address provided will be used in all communications with the district concerning your burn request.
  4. Fill in the SMP number that the burn request is for by using this format SMP 00-00.
  5. Fill in your burn permit number. This is optional.
  6. Enter the location of the burn. Provide the address, or the lat and long, or the township, range and section. If this is skipped your burn request might be denied. You can provide more information to describe the location of the burn in the comment field at the end of this online form.
  7. Fill the ignition start date or use the form calendar. This is not optional.
  8. Select the expected burn duration from the drop down list. If you choose Other, add your explanation to the comment field at the end of this form.
  9. If this burn request is for piles, enter the number of piles by sizes. If none of the sizes represent your pile, select other and describe in the comment field at the end of this online form.
  10. If this burn request is for a broadcast, burning standing vegetation, enter the number of acres.
  11. Check the box that closest represents the vegetation type of the broadcast burn. Check Other if none come close to your burn, and describe your vegetation type in the comment field at the end of this online form.
  12. Check the box that best describes the ignition technique being used to start the burn. Choose Other if none represents your technique and describe in the comment field at the end of this online form.
  13. Click on the “Send Burn Request” to submit your burn request to the district.

Responses

You will get confirmation the district received your burn request by email. This is NOT an approval to burn.

The district will notify you by email if your burn request was approved or denied. It may take up to 2 days for a response.
