A federally funded nutritional program for low-to-moderate income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants and children to the age of five years who are at nutritional risk. WIC is unique in that it provides specific supplemental nutritious foods and nutrition education to a specific target population as an adjunct to ongoing health care. The purpose of the WIC program is to prevent health problems and to improve the health of program participants during critical times of growth and development. Breastfeeding support and information is available to all WIC Program participants at the numbers listed below. After hours assistance is also available via the Loving Support phone line 472-2744. WIC Program participants may be eligible to borrow hospital grade electric breast pumps, contact us for more information. Services are provided at 10 sites throughout the County. There are ixed-base offices in Ukiah and Ft. Bragg and the staff travels to outlying clinics in Pt. Arena, Boonville, Willits, Covelo, Laytonville, and Leggett monthly or bi-monthly. In addition, there are subcontracted offices with Consolidated Tribal Health Project. The WIC Program not only improves the health of the WIC participants, but also helps the local economy by the spending of the vouchers for specific nutritious foods at local markets. In 1998, over 2 million federal dollars were infused into the local economy as the participants spent the vouchers at local stores. Contact Information: Ukiah - Main Office Ft.
